THE OLYMPICS 2012 & 2016

London 2012 Rio 2016 Olympics

LONDON 2012

You may still remember the AMAZING spirit of London 2012, but the lead up to it all had been more a feeling of impending doom and national embarrassment.

But then, ‘The Queen’ jumped out of a helicopter with James Bond and it all changed…

The national mood was one of pride and excitement, Super Saturday happened, Golds and Silvers started rolling in, everyone loved Mo, Jess, Greg, Andy, Tom, the Davids (Weir & Beckham). The tube was a bit busier but no-one really cared (OK maybe some rose-tinted memories there).

Team GB came a record breaking third overall with 65 medals (29 Golds!) and in The Paralympics hit a whopping 120 medals including 34 Golds!

I was lucky enough to be in the Olympic Stadium three times, screaming for joy when Mo won a gold and feeling the incredible atmosphere of The Paralympics.

This year I will be jumping about watching the TV as Rio gets started…

RIO 2016

This time it is predicted chaos, mosquitos and doping that have marred the lead up to Rio 2016.

Today though is time for the actual games to begin!

Whatever happens, much of the negative coverage will be forgotten as sports people in both the Olympics and Paralympics break records and amaze us with that the human body and mind can achieve. Also we have Dame Judi Dench in the opening ceremony – almost as good as The Queen!

Team GB is not predicted to quite hit the dizzy heights of the 2012 medal haul (59 vs 65) as we are no longer the ‘home team’ but as we know predictions can always be wrong…

Here is to a massive haul of Team GB medals for Rio 2016, but in the meantime a reminder of the spirit of London 2012 #KTFA
